As the crisp autumn air settles in and the year draws closer to its end, many of us start reflecting on what we’ve accomplished and what might still be possible before the year closes. Autumn feels like a season of both endings and transitions—wrapping up old chapters and preparing for new ones. This year, for me, has been all about learning and making changes to support my well-being.
Back to Work: Navigating Part-Time and Energy Levels
After a long recovery, I’ve re-entered the workforce part-time, and while I enjoy my work, I still find myself tired at the end of the day. I’m mindful of avoiding overstimulation while trying to remain active after work. It’s been a research period of sorts—figuring out how to balance my limited free time, especially as a mother of three, with hobbies and activities that support my health and well-being.
Morning Walks: A Simple Boost for Well-Being
As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve continued with my ‘Peaceful Pace’ walking routine, and it’s been an incredible anchor. I walk 3-4 times a week, and I absolutely love my morning walks to work. They fill me with energy and positivity—a simple, inexpensive way to boost well-being that I recommend to anyone looking for a small but significant change.
Journaling: From Stress Relief to Daily Reflection
Journaling has always been a big part of my life. During tough times with my mental health, it became my safe space, helping me process emotions and ease anxiety. Recently, I took it further by enrolling in an online journaling coach course. While I don’t plan to become a coach, I wanted to deepen my understanding of journaling’s benefits.
I’ve started writing “after-work pages.” In the past, I would come home from work in a bad mood, needing to vent. It wasn’t productive, and it prolonged my stress. Now, writing these pages has been a game-changer. I reflect freely on my day and focus on what went well, sometimes writing down things I’m grateful for. It helps me release work stress in a much healthier way.
Bullet Journaling: Grounding Through Weekly Spreads
Another thing I’ve added to my journaling routine is bullet journaling. I create weekly spreads in my notebook, and although they aren’t the most artistic, I find them incredibly grounding. At the end of each week, I sit down to plan for the week ahead. It’s not about making something beautiful—it’s about starting somewhere and creating a habit that brings peace.
Knitting a Jumper: A New Challenge
One of the more ambitious hobbies I’m about to try is knitting a jumper. Two and a half years ago, before my sick leave, I attempted to knit woolen socks. I struggled so much with the heel that my mother eventually finished them for me. Looking back, I realize that I was already too unwell to complete them. But now, with renewed energy, I’m ready to try again—this time with a jumper. A friend from work gave me advice on the type of jumper to knit, and I’ve ordered the yarn from a shop in Salla, Lapland. I’m excited to see how this project turns out!
Yoga Challenge: Finding Peace in Gentle Movements
Lastly, I’ve started a 30-day yoga challenge—one pose per day. It’s the perfect pace for me: gentle, not too demanding, and aligned with my goal of enjoying stress-free hobbies. The challenge has allowed me to integrate mindful movement into my routine without the pressure of a full workout.
Your Turn: Reflecting on Your Autumn Journey
As the year winds down, personal growth doesn’t always have to come from grand achievements. Sometimes, it’s about the small, mindful choices that nurture us—whether it’s a morning walk, a few minutes spent journaling, or a simple yoga pose. I’m looking forward to seeing how these peaceful practices will continue to shape my days as the season changes.
How has your autumn been so far? What new habits or hobbies have you started this year? Is there something you’ve been meaning to try before the year ends?
Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear about your journey!
